At MCC we are committed to "Community through SMALL GROUPS”

Community is that deep sense of belonging; of authentic, enriching and growth producing
relationships that come most often through small groups. Here are some answers to questions people often ask regarding small groups. We hope this helps enrich your understanding of what small groups are and why being part of one can add value to your life.

WHAT IS A “SMALL GROUP”?

A small group is 6-15 people who meet together regularly for the purpose of growing in their relationship to God and with other people.

WHY BE IN A SMALL GROUP?

If you desire to grow in your life with Jesus, be in a small group. More of the factors that contribute to spiritual growth are present in small groups than in any other single activity of our church. In addition, we need to grow in our relationships with each other. In the day of cell phones, faxes, email, and snail mail, nothing replaces the God-given need for face-to-face contact. The joys and challenges, hurts and growth of our lives are not meant to be carried alone, but shared. The sharing of lives that takes place creates connections that become indispensable.

WHAT GOES ON IN SMALL GROUPS?

In different ways, all of our small groups will pursue the following practices:

  • Connecting the truths of the Bible to the real issues of our lives through Bible study
  • Sharing the positives and negatives of our lives, giving support and encouragement
  • Praying for each other, bringing God’s power into our lives

God is calling Modesto Covenant Church to be a congregation that is “Devoted to one another in community,” (from Modesto Covenant Church’s Core Values).

WHEN CAN I GET INTO A SMALL GROUP?

It depends on the type of group. Some groups are open anytime, others at the beginning of a study course. The church bulletin announces when these groups are starting or you can contact Pastor Jeff Norman or Pam Scholl at the church office.

WHAT TYPES OF SMALL GROUPS DO WE OFFER?

We offer groups for men or women only, mixed-gender groups, campus-based groups and  home Bible study groups that meet evenings on an ongoing basis. Call church office for
more information as to times and locations.

Small groups yield big impact!

The experience of being in a small group follows the Bible’s pattern for becoming a fully devoted follower of Jesus. Whether you are new at walking with Jesus or a veteran, we can all benefit by being together around God’s Word. MCC offers an array of small groups that have different study themes, meet in different locations and meet at different times. What they offer in common is the chance to form deep connections with those who are also on a journey with Jesus. Here are the options from which you may choose:
