My wife Lori and I were married in 1992 here in Modesto. My wife is from Ripon and I grew up in San Rafael, about 10 miles north of San Francisco. We have three children (Elisa, Matt, and Katie).
I have been the Lead Pastor at Modesto Covenant Church since 2001. Prior to Modesto, I served as an Associate Pastor in Mankato, Minnesota and as a Youth Pastor in the Sacramento area and the Bay Area. After graduating from UC Davis, I have attended three seminaries - Denver Seminary (Master of Divinity degree), North Park Seminary (Covenant orientation), and Fuller Seminary (Certificate of Advanced Study in Christian Leadership and Ministry).
Modesto has been a great place for me and my family. We regularly connect with Lori's family in the Modesto area, and with my brother's family (in Rocklin) and my parents (in Reno) whenever we can. Our family enjoys day trips to the coast, mountains, and Bay Area. I also enjoy following Giants baseball, 49ers football, and skiing at least once a year.
I am from the San Francisco Peninsula. After studying International Business Management at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, I served as a missionary in places like Morocco, China, Italy, England, and France. Along the way, I completed an MDiv from Regent College in Vancouver, Canada. It was at Regent where I met my English wife, Christina. We have two daughters.
I started here at MCC in the summer of 2013. To me, there is nothing more exciting than co-journeying with the people of God in the life of faith, and developing a vibrant and healthy discipleship culture shaped by "MCC"--Mission, Christ and Community!
I love...life! I love celebrating God's goodness and creativity in nature and in food. I love spending time with people, listening to them and laughing with them. I love exploring new places, discovering new cultures, and learning new languages. Right here in Modesto, I have enjoyed driving through almond orchards, swimming with my wife and kids, and tasting my first-ever pupusa at Farmer's Market--they rock! Like Mark, I am a life-long fan of the 49ers and Giants.
I grew up in Visalia, CA and from there I moved to San Jose, CA where I attended San Jose State University and earned my B.A. in Music Ed/Vocal Performance. While I was in San Jose I began to attend Westgate Church where I could sense that God was building in me a passion for leading praise-worship music. I have been in full-time praise-worship ministry since 2007, and I couldn't see myself doing anything else.
On February 23, 2013 I married the love of my life, Kelsie. In June of 2016, God blessed us with the birth of our daughter, Alice. We also have a fox red lab named Lady and a miniature labradoodle named Rose. We love being a part of the family here at MCC. We both share in the gift of hospitality and plan to develop meaningful relationships in and outside of the church.
My favorite Bible passage is Romans 12:1-2 - "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."
It is a privilege and a blessing to help people draw into an awareness of God's presence and to encourage the church to express themselves with praise to Him.
I am a Central Valley girl, born and raised right here in Modesto. After high school (Go Panthers), I attended Modesto Junior College and transferred to CSU Stanislaus where I graduated with a degree in psychology. I am happily married to my high school sweetheart, Craig. We have four amazing kids (Elijah, Ellie, Adam, and Aimee) and a dog (Missy) who is far too smart for her own good.
The VBS program is what brought us to Modesto Covenant. My family began attending regularly in the fall of 2001. We have loved raising our family here. In September of 2011, I joined the church staff as an administrative assistant. Through God’s perfect timing, I became the Children’s Ministry Director in August of 2017. I count it a blessing to work in a ministry that values children and seeks to help them grow in their relationship with our Lord.
In my free time you might find me hanging out with family, walking in my neighborhood, reading, or watching good shows on Netflix.
Growing up as a Navy brat, my family moved many times, finally settling in Oakland. We attended First Covenant Church, where I eventually served as a preschool teacher after finishing at UC Davis. My husband and I met at Mission Springs while serving on staff. We have two grown children, a cat and a dog. Lighthouse Preschool is said to be my third child, as I devote most of my time to it’s nurture and care. I enjoy shopping with my daughter, photography, and I am an Oakland Raider fan.
I grew up right here in Modesto, graduated from Beyer High School, then left for southern California where I graduated from Azusa Pacific University with a degree in Accounting. I met my wife Kim while at APU and we were married in 1983. We have three adult sons, a wonderful daughter-in-law, and three remarkable grandsons. We are blessed that all of our kids love the Lord and serve Him faithfully. I’m a CPA and Controller for an almond-related business here in the Central Valley. I have also been a drummer for many years and love playing in our worship band. My wife and I have served in children’s and youth ministry here at Modesto Covenant Church for 17 years, and we love hanging out with students on mission trips, in small groups, and during times of worship, teaching and games. As a bi-vocational ministry leader, I count it a privilege to partner with other exceptional leaders in our student ministry and see God work in the lives of young people as He transforms them into fully devoted followers of Christ.
I was born and raised in Modesto, CA and have called Modesto Covenant Church my church home since the age of eight. I graduated from CSU Long Beach in May 2011 with a BA in Dance and a minor in Psychology. Upon graduation I served on a short-term arts missions team in Hungary and the following spring attended Operation Mobilization’s Arts in Missions school in northern Italy. During the school in Italy, God introduced my husband, Marco and I, and in October 2013 we were married here in California. For the first year and a half of our marriage we served as missionaries in Italy where we met, learned so much, but are also thrilled to be in Modesto starting a new chapter of life! Dance has always been one of my biggest passions and I still actively pursue this part of who God created me to be. During my college and post-college experiences I also felt a strong call to work with teens and could not be more excited to be here at MCC with the high school students, walking with them as they learn to walk with God in new and special ways each day during the crazy adventure known as high school. Marco and I both love food – eating and cooking – and travelling. I also enjoy regular physical activity and finding new adventures wherever I go.
My name is Jeffrey Colen, I am from Charleston, SC and no, I do not have a southern accent but I can make real Mac & Cheese. I went to college at Charleston Southern University and obtained a degree in Student Ministries. My heart is focused on God and His plans. His plan for me is to keep bringing the Gospel to the students of this generation and to inspire them to seek an relationship with Him. One cool thing about me is that, I love to read books and watch movies because I enjoy the adventures they take me on.
